2020 - adiós
I look back at the year that has gone by,
One with extreme lows and very few highs.
We witnessed people losing their loved ones,
Migrants walking endless paths in search of few bread crumbs.
We saw world’s economy crashing down,
For the first time our entire country in lockdown.
A celebrity’s death being made a political gimmick,
Media stooping down to lowest level to break down a woman’s spirit.
Everyone losing their mental peace confined within four walls,
Religious extremists fighting amongst themselves killing innocent lives in bloody brawls.
Farmers protesting for their rights amid the cold winds, braving the winter chill,
People being laid off trying hard to survive the journey uphill.
Football losing its favourite son, World Cinema losing incredible artists and the list is so long,
As if the universe is playing a cruel treacherous song.
Though the year was mostly full of despair, anguish and every evil we would like to shun,
It taught us the significance of gratitude, humility, freedom and humanity like no one.
Let’s hope as we bid goodbye to the year of virus tonight
It’s marks the end of evil both inside and outside.
